What is Walk The Walk?

Walk The Walk is all about raising funds and awareness so that people experiencing homelessness can access free laundry, warm showers, and genuine connections. We're asking you to walk 122km in March to support the 122,000 Australians experiencing homelessness, and raise funds for Orange Sky. By participating in the challenge, you're helping Orange Sky to provide support, care and community for our friends in need.

When is the challenge?

Walk The Walk happens in March and you can choose to complete your kilometres, in your own time, wherever you want, when it best suits you! 

What are the distance options?

The primary challenge for Walk The Walk is 122km for the 122,000 Australians experiencing homelessness.That's 1km for every thousand people doing it tough.

However, if that challenge is not quite right for you, we encourage you to take on a challenge that suits you best. We suggest:
  • 61km challenge: Walk 0.5km for every thousand friends doing it tough
  • 244km challenge: Walk 2km for every thousand friends doing it tough
Or you can set your own goal to go the distance for Aussies experiencing homelessness.

SIGNING UP

How long does registration and fundraising stay open?

You will be able to sign up to Walk The Walk right up to and during the month of March. Fundraising will stay open until the 30th of April.

How do I add someone to my team?

There are two ways that potential new team members can join your team.

1. You can invite new team members by logging into your Team Dashboard.
2. You can share your team page link with people and they can click 'join' to sign up! Please note this will only work if you've selected 'anyone can join' when setting up your team.

MY PROFILE

I need help updating my online profile – who can I contact?

Head to the top right hand corner of the website (on desktop) or open the sidebar on mobile to login to your profile and access your dashboard, and check out the options to update your profile. If you’re having trouble, click here to contact us.

How do I log my fitness activity?

You can log the kilometres you walk to track your progress as a way to keep your friends and family updated on your progress and show donors you're 'walking the walk'. 

Follow these steps to track your kilometres automatically:


1. Download the Fitbit, MapMyFitness, or Garmin apps and set up your account.


2. Log in to your Walk The Walk account within your fundraising page.

3. Under the heading 'Connect your preffered fitness app', click your chosen app.

4. Follow the prompts to connect your account.

5. When you start your walk, select 'start your workout' in the app on your phone. Once you end your walk, save it in the app and your distance will be published on your fundraising page the following day.

Follow these steps to manually add in your kilometres:

1. Log in to your account and select ‘My Fitness Activity’ 

2. Under the ‘Add activity’ section, enter the date and distance you have completed

3. The number of kilometres will now appear on your fundraising page for everyone to see!

Remember, all of your kilometres will be reset to 0km on 1 March, so we can Walk The Walk together!

What if I start my challenge before 1 March?

We love your enthusiasm! Your kilometres will be tracked once you connect your app and then we will refresh everyone's stats on 1 March to start Walk The Walk together.

RAISING FUNDS

Are there any rewards?

Every participant will receive badges on their online fundraising page when milestones are completed; such as when you get your first donation, log your first kilometre or share your fundraising page online.

When you raise $240, you will receive a free Orange Sky water bottle!

Will people who donate to me get a tax-deductible receipt?

Absolutely! Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible. Receipts are issued automatically to the donor after a donation is made through your challenge page.

How do people donate to my fundraising page?

Upon registering, you’ll create your own fundraising page and be provided with a unique URL. Share this with your friends and family so they can donate directly to your page!

Where does the money I raise go?

Great question! All the funds you raise will directly support Orange Sky’s Australian services, providing free laundry, warm showers and the opportunity for conversation and connection. With over 37 locations providing services, we need your help to continue this important service to our friends doing it tough. Find out more here.

Can I create a Facebook fundraiser?

Absolutely! You can create a Facebook fundraiser by clicking the "Create a Facebook Fundraiser" button in your dashboard. This way your fundraising from Facebook will contribute to your overall total on your Walk the Walk fundraising page on this website.
